Application of chitosan in the food industry: Chitosan can be used as an adhesive, humectant, clarifier, filler, emulsifier, glazing agent, and thickening stabilizer in the food industry. It can also be used as a functional oligosaccharide to lower cholesterol and improve immunity. Enzymatic or acid hydrolysis of shrimp skin or crab shell is widely used in industry to extract chitosan.

HIGH-DENSITY CHITOSAN
High-density chitosan has 2-3 times the density (≥0.6g/ml) of ordinary chitosan, and its ability to absorb grease is more than 3 times that of ordinary chitosan at the same volume. Generally, only one high-density chitosan capsule is needed to quickly dissolve and adsorb a large amount of grease, cholesterol, and chloride ions in a short period of time under the condition of gastric acid, which flocculates in the intestinal tract without being absorbed and excreted directly, thus achieving the functions of lowering lipid and blood pressure.
MEDICAL GRADE
Application of chitosan in the pharmaceutical industry: According to the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (Part IV), chitosan is used in pharmaceutical excipients, disintegrants, thickeners, etc.
1. Carrier materials Chitosan, which acts as a drug carrier, is touted for stabilizing the composition of a drug, promoting its absorption, slowing or controlling its dissolution, helping the drug reach its target organ, and being acid-resistant, ulcer-resistant, as well as preventing gastric irritation.
2. Film-forming materials: Chitosan can be used as a film-forming material for film preparation, such as oral film preparation and traditional Chinese medicine film preparation. Its relative molecular weight has a prominent influence on the film-forming property and film properties. Generally, the lower the molecular weight, the lower the tensile strength and the stronger the permeability of the film. Appropriate crosslinking agents can be selected to improve the strength and change the barrier properties of the film.
INDUSTRIAL GRADE
Application of chitosan in the light industry: Taking advantage of the solubility and film-forming property of chitosan as well as the interconvertibility of its chemical structure, acetic anhydride was used as the transformation fixing agent of chitosan-chitin, thus a new type of chitin-type fabric finishing agent without formaldehyde was prepared, which has preferable mechanical strength and chemical stability. Application in environmental protection: Chitosan can be used to treat industrial wastewater and extract heavy metals. Stable chelates can be formed by amino groups, hydroxyl groups, and metal ions in molecules, which can be widely applied in the recovery of precious metals, industrial wastewater treatment, and other aspects. Soluble chitosan with high viscosity was prepared by chitosan, and the obtained product was of high viscosity, good quality, no toxicity, biodegradability, and no secondary pollution.
